It's the end of the year so it's time for everyone to give us a sneak peak at what's coming next year. Nintendo gave us this year's Indie World Showcase and honestly, it's not too bad. Keep reading for a re-cap of the show.
Okay, okay. I'm not a sportsball person but this looks really interesting. It seems like Nintendo took the Stardew Valley approach but switched almost everything up with sports? Lots of different types of sports, mini-games, some dungeon crawling as well. This Nintendo Switch exclusive will launch sometime mid 2020.
Dreamscaper is a game you should keep your eyes on if you enjoy dungeon crawlers, top-down view and procedurally generated games. Every time your character goes to sleep you'll experience a whole new dungeon while the friends/experiences you have during your waking hours help shape those dungeons. Dreamscaper will hit the Switch first in early 2020 as a timed exclusive for the system.
Axiom Verge 2
While not a whole lot is known about this sequel to the beloved Metroidvania style game, Nintendo did give us some gameplay footage just to up our hopes and dreams. Axiom Verge 2 should release in Fall of 2020
Streets of Rage 4
This should be a no brainer for everyone to get and I'm glad to see it coming to the Switch. Streets of Rage franchise took a lot of my time as a younger gamer so while the characters(and how they've aged) might not hit as hard with some gamers, it's nice to see the franchise coming about for the "younger" generation of gamers to enjoy the beat 'em up gameplay style. Streets of Rage 4 should be showing up on the Switch the first bit of 2020. Fingers crossed it happens that soon.
The Monster Hunter clone is now available on the Switch. It may sound like "Monster Hunter Clone" is a bad thing, but it's not. Dauntless actually does a really good job and is an all around solid title. Your character will also move over to the Switch so you can continue playing from where you left off and not have to start all over again.
Set for an early 2020 release this title looks like it has potential but will only appeal to a niche group of people, given its seemingly weird story(you become a sword, fight monsters with a group of kids...) Never-the-less watch the trailer and see for yourself if it's something you might find interesting.
Bake 'n Switch
Party brawler co-op action is this games thing. It actually looks pretty fun to play with a group of friends. Watch the trailer below. Bake 'n Switch should release sometime in the summer of 2020.
This game allows you to mix two genres of games together to create one game. It sounds pretty interesting and might solve the age old question of "What if we mixed "X" game with "X" game? What would happen?" You can also collect something called Dev cards from your creations and share them with other players. It seems an interesting concept but I guess we'll have to wait until May of 2020 to find out.
Sail Forth allows you to sail your own ship in a procedurally generated world fighting other ships, sea monsters and the weather of the high seas itself. With lots of different customizations for your ship like weapons, color, equipment and other things, this might be a title to keep your eyes open set for sometime in 2020.
Other Titles To Look Out For:
A game set in The Escapists universe. You basically control monkeys on an island and teach them to survive. You can build/craft things, the island has a day/night cycle and there's a co-op mode for you and up to three buddies either couch co-op or online. The Survivalists will launch at some point in 2020.
Talos Principle: Deluxe Edition
Should be no surprise that The Talos Principle finally found its way to the Nintendo Switch. Almost every other notable game of this generation has made the move to the Switch. Why not this one? The Deluxe Edition comes with the DLC Road to Gahenna and should be available now.
Murder by Numbers
A visual novel and a puzzle game rolled into one. Murder by Numbers should be out early 2020 and is a timed exclusive on the Switch.
Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD
Available January 2020. It's the HD version of Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath. That about sums that up.
Coming late 2020 supposedly. I mean it's a skateboarding game where you play as a bird. That's a pretty interesting twist on things.
Coming some time in 2020. It's a dungeon crawler where your weapons can turn into different boyfriends. So, yeah. If that's your thing keep a lookout for this game.
Seems like a side-scrolling, visual novel approach with a Cyberpunk setting. It'll be a timed exclusive sometime in 2020.
