The State of Arena 7/10/2020
Welcome back “The State of Arena”! This week we will discuss last weekend’s event and look ahead to things to come. Let us jump right in!
Last weekend we had the standard metagame challenge on Arena that cost 2000 coins or 400 gems to play in. They do that occasionally but I usually do not participate. This time, however, I decided to give it a go and while I never finished undefeated (if you lose you are out), I did manage to “farm” resources from it. Basically the event is for you to test your standard decks against the meta to see how it holds up. If you win 3 matches, you get your 2000 coins back as well as 3 packs of cards from the most recent set. If you happen to win all 7 matches, you get 5000 coins and a massive 30 packs of cards. That is insane value, but is very difficult to obtain. Ultimately, if this event comes around, find an upper tier deck and jam it as many times as possible to try to get a ton of resources back. I was able to net approximately 15 packs of M21 cards which is far more than I would have been able to acquire from simply grinding. When this event comes back around, I would recommend giving it some attempts.
After the event was over, I have been playing (on and off stream) some Standard ranked mainly using an Esper Bolas list that I saw @Theasianavenger play. It is basically a control deck that finds a way to add red to the manabase to cast Nicol Bolas. It is a pretty sweet list but so far I have been slightly above 50% with it. I intend to get back to mythic soon, but the sacrifice and big mana decks are difficult to overcome. That pretty much is the state of arena in standard right now, sacrifice decks and big mana ramp decks and temur reclamation decks are abundant.
Some other exciting news that I got this week was that I have now been accepted into the MTG Content Creator program which means I am officially recognized and will be able to give back more to the community as I tackle challenges on stream! I had applied for this right when I started streaming with the expectation of having to wait a while to get in, but in about 2 months we got in! So I am very excited to start tackling the challenges to bring sweet giveaways to my community. Help us grow so we can do more!
The last bit of information is we will be switching to focusing on Historic soon as the next Arena Open is all about the Historic format. They have a Banned and Restricted (B&R) announcement coming next Monday that will likely ban some problematic cards (from a fun and entertainment point of view). Once that announcement hits, we will be playing a lot of Historic to prepare for the open!
That is all for this week! Tune in to my streams as we dive into MTG Arena almost daily. Feel free to provide feedback by emailing me at firstname.lastname@example.org or contacting us here at the site! Until next time, happy gaming my friends and we will see you then!
